Sky Scaffolding have supplied the scaffolding for the refurbishment of Birmingham’s Church of Scientology headquarters. The external faces of the building needed scaffolding with sheeting in its entirety, and this was accomplished using 100% Layher Allround System Scaffold.

The Grade II listed building in Moseley was bought by the Church in 2007, and renovations are well underway to transform the 1930’s building into a 140-seat chapel, a training centre and about 40 offices, restoring the building to it’s former glory.

Scaffolding Historic Buildings

When scaffolding historic buildings, extra care must be taken to protect the building fabric. A common problem to solve when scaffolding historic buildings is how to tie into the structure – this is usually achieved by drilling anchors into the brickwork, however as experienced when we were Scaffolding Warwick Castle, alternative solutions have to be utilised.

Thankfully, on this project we were able to drill ties into the brick mortar, as part of the renovation works included re-pointing the brickwork so this was easily repaired afterwards.

100% System Scaffold Solution

This project was a great example of how Layher really is a viable alternative to tube and fitting in most situations. All of the scaffolding erected on this project was done in Layher, and this was not a straightforward scaffold, with chimneys, dormer windows, and irregular shaped walls.
