Sky Scaffolding Midlands Ltd provided a temporary roof and access scaffold to Nuneaton Town Hall whilst vital repairs took place.
A Brief History
The historic site built in 1934 is located in the town centre of Nuneaton town, Warwickshire. It is the headquarters of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.
It is a three storey neoclassical style building essential for the day to day functioning of the council and it’s departments.
Damage and Repairs
Accidental fire damage caused by previous building restorations had rendered the roof of the town hall unfit for purpose and essential works needed to be carried out. Sky Scaffolding was approached to provide weather protection, access scaffold, site access staircase and material hoist for the building repairs to be carried out.
Sky Scaffolding’s solution was to provide a scaffold on three sides of the building to a height of 12m to the eaves, erected using the AT-PAC Ringlock system. The scaffold included a site access staircase.
The roof was erected using the HAKITEC 750 system. It was 15m long, in a duo-pitch configuration with a clear span of 15m between inside standards. The temporary roof was vital for repairs to take place as it provided a weather resistant, safe space for builders to operate whilst providing protection to the building against any potential weather damage.
To allow for essential materials to be lifted to and from the roof, Sky also installed a material hoist for the building contractors to use throughout the renovations.
The scaffolding was erect for a total of ten weeks to allow for the essential works to be completed. It took at total of two and a half weeks to erect.
As well as providing a safe and efficient working environment for repairs to take place, public safety was high on the priority list for Sky when designing this scaffolding solution.
With a busy public car park to the rear of the building being accessed regularly throughout the week it was essential to be able to erect and strike the scaffold as quickly and safely as possible.
Great considerations went into each aspect of the structural design and positioning of the scaffolding to allow for as little disruption as possible to the public and to provide a safe environment around the building whilst materials were being transported to and from the site.
