Our commercial scaffolding projects cover a wide range of work and sectors.  A common factor on all commercial scaffolding projects is that they are usually being carried out on occupied buildings and in public spaces where the normal operation of the building needs to be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

The commercial scaffolding projects we work on include works in shopping centres and high street retail spaces, schools and universities, hospitals and care homes, and many government buildings from town halls to court houses and libraries.

We provide a round-the-clock service to shopfitting and fit out contractors working in live retail spaces, and have developed long-term relationships with big name retail and commercial businesses.

The health and safety of our operatives, our clients, and the public underpins the whole working ethos at Sky Scaffolding.  This is of particular importance for projects in commercial settings where scaffolding works often comes face to face with members of the public.

With careful planning, we take every precaution to safeguard the public both during scaffolding operations, and while the scaffold is in place and in use.

With minimal disruption...

Scaffolding works in commercial settings must be carried out with minimal disruption to the public or users of the building.  Not only can the scaffolding works put others at risk, it can disrupt the normal enjoyment of the site.

We  often carry out scaffolding works during shop or office close time, during night-time shifts or at weekends, to ensure that our works have minimal impact on the day to day operation of a building or public space.

Whilst maintaining an image

A businesses’ image has a hage effect on its’ success, especially in the retail and hospitality sector.  It is important to maintain a professional apprearance, even when refurbishment and maintenance works are being carried out.

We use Layher system scaffold for the majority of commercial scaffolding projects, it provides the best aesthetic finish possible for a scaffold with no protruding tubes, and a brandable, integrated hoarding system.

Safe Erection of Commercial Scaffolding in Public Spaces

The general public will not be aware of the hazards associated with scaffolding activites making them more vulnerable to the possibility of injury.  Adequate planning is therefor essential for the safe erection, use, maintenance, alteration and dismantling of scaffolding structures in close proximity to the general public and others who may be affected by the scaffolding operations.

Interface with the public may occur in a variety of environments and it is important that every project is risk assesed on its own merits.

Scaffolding Works on the Public Highway

Before erecting scaffold structures on a public pathway or adjacent to a public highway, an appropriate license or ‘pavement permit’ must be obtained from the relevant Highways Authority or Council.  This license is normally obtained by the scaffolding contractor, however in some areas the Highways Authority requires the end user or Main Contractor to apply for the license.

It is essential that a traffic management plan is produced to manage the flow of vehicles and pedestrians around the work area.  The traffic management plan during erection and dismantling of the scaffold may include pavement closures and partial or full road closure, and this may differ to the traffic management plan in place while the scaffold is in-site, where pedestrians may be permitted to walk under the scaffold.

Escalator Scaffolds

Works on escalators can be tricky due to the limits on the leg loads that the escalators can safely support.

We have developed a bespoke system to provide safe access above escalators that passes the escalator structural checks, and can be erected and dismantled during night shifts to be clear before store open time.

Enhanced DBS Checks

Schools should ensure that any contractor who is to work at the school has been subject to the appropriate level of DBS Check.

We carry out enhanced DBS checks on our workforce for all works where we have to come in regular contact with children or vulnerable adults.

Together with our shop fitting and retail fit-out customers, we work the length and breadth of the country providing essential access for maintenance and refurbishment works in retail environments and public spaces.
