Over half of the scaffolding projects we deliver ustilise a system scaffold, as apposed to traditional tube and fitting scaffold. We have extensive experience using the Layher and HAKI systems and often find they offer the best solution to meet the needs of our customers.
System scaffolds offer a significant speed advantage over traditional tube and fitting scaffolds, an advantage that is valuable for all projects. System scaffolds eliminate all the loose fitting connections normally required, and with the right planning, erection and dismantle times can be cut by over 30% when compared with traditional scaffolding methods.
All of the system scaffolds we use comply to the BS EN 12810 and BS EN 12811 standards.
System Scaffold for Refurbishment
Refurbisment works as shown above require a scaffold solution that can cope with the non-uniformity of older buildings and intricate architectural details.
The Layher Allround system scaffold we use is extremely versatile. It has a large range of bay sizes from 152mm to 3072mm, and a choice of internal board brackets from half-board to 3-board. There are thousands of other accessory components to oversome any problem.
System Scaffold in Industrial Settings
Scaffolding works in industrial settings such as factories and manufacturing facilities must be carried out in such a way to minimise the impact on production.
We use system scaffold in industrial settings as it is extremely fast to erect and dismantle, minimising the impact on on-site operations. In addition, it is timber-free which is important in some sterile environments, such as in the food and drink industry where dust and splinters must be avoided.
System Scaffold for Commercial Works
Scaffolding works on commercial properties such as business premises, offices, shops and hotels need to be carried out in a manner that minimises the impact on the users of those buildings.
These projects not only benefit from the fast install and removal speed of system scaffold, but also the excellent aesthetic qualities that can be achived. With no protruding tubes and neat, uniform bay sizes, the system scaffold offers a finish that is hard to match with traditional scaffold.
How does NASC TG20 apply to system scaffolds?
TG20 has been developed in response to the introduction of BS EN 12811, the European Standard that defines the design requirements for scaffolding. It is a comprehensive guide to good practice for tube and fitting scaffolding, which has been produced by the NASC as the recognised UK trade body for scaffolding and access.
TG20 provides generic designs for common tube and fitting scaffold structures to enable scaffolding contractors to erect scaffolds that are compliant with BS EN 12811-1, without the need for a design to be produced each time. However… TG20 does not apply to system scaffolds.
Does my system scaffold need a design?
The design and erection of system scaffolds is covered by manufacturer’s guidance documents which have been produced to satisfy the requirements of BS EN 12810, the European Standard that defines the design requirements for system scaffolding, as well as BS EN 12811.
Manufacturer’s guidance often provides some standard general arrangements that can be used. However, just as with traditional tube and fitting, system scaffolds are extremely versatile and can be used in an infinate number of ways that may deviate from standard arrangements. In these cases a detailed design would be required, just as it would for bespoke, complex tube and fitting scaffolds.

HAKI Stair Tower
The HAKI staircase has become synonymous with the scaffolding industry in the UK. Providing safe access to working platforms without the need for ladders.
The 4kN/m² capacity site access staircase is available in 1.0m, 1.5m and 2,0m lift heights, and can be configured in a variety of arrangements – including spiral ascents and parallel flights.
Layher Public Access Staircase
The Layher public access staircase system can support high volumes of pedestrian traffic with a safe working load up to 7.5kN/m². These are often used as temporary accesses in railway stations, airports, shopping malls and sports arenas.
The staircase is fully DDA compliant, with non-slip GRP coverings, highlighted nosings, and double continuous guardrails.
Integrated Hoarding System
We use the Layher Protect Panel system, an excellent integrated hoarding system that is attached to the Layher Allround system scaffold to protect the public and prevent unauthorised access.
The system also incorporates secure access doors, and can be branded with inexpensive vinyl wrap.
